It's like the new old school.

This has oldschool soul all over it with a modern bounce, like Afrika Bambaataa on a spaceship to funktron and he has this on the mixtape.

I'm so glad people are giving you the props you deserve instead of remembering you as the silent hill beat guy.

Skullbeatz responds:

Haha, Funkotron.. yeah i would love to hear this in a Toejam & Earl game!
Thanks Gunstar for your kind words!

Call me crazy, or flag my review as useless.

From the looks of it, I am the only user on newgrounds who dislikes this track. I wish I could give you a review on what I think you should improve... but there are so many things that I don't like about this 'song'. The beat is awkward in general and lacks flow. The kick snare kick snare drum patten is predictable and bland. The 'car horns' are literally beyond annoying. The repetitiveness is obvious. After the first few seconds I just want to stop listening and move on to something else, but because of the score and popularity this has, I listened to the whole thing waiting to see if something 'good' happens. It never did, and I sit here wondering why it has the score it has in the 'OLDSCHOOL HIP-HOP PORTAL'. Call me crazy, or flag my review as useless.

Nice.

Minimalism is key, and it works here. This is what lyrics need to be, they should get something flowing in-between my headphones.

I would love to hear this take off after the last line, a few seconds of decay on the rhodes then fast paced crazy high-energy vocal aerosol banging John Bonham drum mindfuck.

BigRed responds:

Yeah, I hear you coming off the end a bit. It falls aparts and then comes back in with someone yelling "FUCK YOU LITTLE MAN" over a thrash sax solo. I might just do that!

Little Red

I like this a lot. The beat, the recording, your delivery... damn, this is just really good. I wish I could say the same thing about the music I've made years ago. Listening to this, it's really intense, almost eerie. Like on the verge of goosebumps. I mean, I can tell you've improved your flow and mic-persona in contrast with your recent tracks, but the lyricism is still there. It's ten folds better than most '20-something-year-old' rappers I know today and you wrote this way back. (Not sure if that turned out to be the compliment I intended, most '20-something-year-old' rappers are shit anyway, but you get what I mean.)

BigRed responds:

Little Red, I like that! Thanks man!

Dude, this is great.

Holy tits. Awesome. I'd say that was some genesis game in the intro, but I could be wrong. I love the drums and chops at 55 seconds in when the song transitions. This is fucking great.

My only critique (which is me nitpicking a perfect 10) is about the snares you have going on, I like them, but one hi-hat that hits with the snare has a 'sizzle' that stands out of the mix a little too much. I'd just turn down the highs/mids or the level a bit on that one particular hi-hat, it takes away too much attention for itself compared to the overall beat. You can hear when it goes away completely at like 2:15 and then comes back at 2:25. It is really in your ears.

Anyway, sorry for being 'that guy' that leaves you 'that review'. I still think you're one of the rawest producers I've heard on newgrounds this year.

DJDureagon responds:

Its the Streets of Rage ending theme <_< >_>.

Hey these are the types of reviews that people post their music for. I can hear the hi hat you are talking about. Its funny cuz i was debating weather to have that hat layered with the snare throughout the entire song or not. I dont have the greatest speakers in the world. I shall remaster this song at some point.

It means a lot to be called "Rawest" at anything. Thanks for the review.

Nice!

I feel like I've been waiting forever to hear this. Worth the wait. Sounds great. The craftsmanship is top notch - you guys have turned this into a great song.

Murdaa responds:

;D I would of gott it on quicker.. but life problems came around a really unlucky time. glad to know u liked it bro ;D

Damn

I really dig this, props. Thanks for the shot-out, it's nice to be acknowledged by one of the best MC's on Newgrounds.

Freddy at work again.

Great, I love the echo'd blips and vocals. I thought it was on loop before I realized the track was 6 minutes long.

freddyfinger responds:

yea i was wondering if i made this too long or not heh. glad ya like it

Not hip-hop.

I don't want to rain on your parade or anything, but this doesn't sound hip-hop to me at all. It sounds more like house music. The change-ups are very abrupt and the break has a tinny sound to it. It's just hard to bob my head to or I'd imagine write a rap to, which are usually two things I base hip-hop judgment off of.

Not bad at all.

I think this track is great but repetitive. I noticed small change-ups here and there but was expecting a few bars with some variation for a chorus or hook. The sample you used is great but after a minute or so I just want to hear something added in or changed up. Great job overall.

5/5 & 8/10

DJDureagon responds:

Hey Greene, I see what you mean about repetativeness. One thing i try to do when making my songs is to decide weather the song is going to be a song or an instrumental. The difference i feel being a song is a self contained work whereas an instrumental is something is intended to be spit over. This was intended to be an instrumental. I think if i would have left off maybe the last few bars it would have been better. Thanks for the review. It's an honor.
